Non-profits are an unusual vertical for MCA because their revenue model is fundamentally different — they rely on donations, grants, and program fees rather than commercial sales. Not all funders understand this, but the ones that do look at deposit consistency the same way they would any other business. Regular donations, recurring grants, and program revenue all count.
The strongest non-profit MCA deals come from organizations with diversified funding sources. A non-profit that relies on a single annual grant is risky, but one that receives weekly donations, monthly membership fees, and quarterly program revenue looks much more like a fundable business to MCA underwriters.
Deal sizes typically range from $15K to $100K. Non-profits with event-based revenue (galas, fundraisers, seasonal campaigns) may need to time their MCA application to coincide with their strongest deposit months. If your merchant is a non-profit, lead with their deposit consistency and diversified income streams.
Grants are often awarded and disbursed on different schedules. A non-profit may be approved for funding but not receive the money for months, while program costs are immediate.
Galas, charity runs, and fundraising events require venue deposits, catering, marketing, and logistics spending well before ticket sales and donations come in.
Launching new programs or expanding into new communities requires hiring staff, securing space, and purchasing supplies before the program generates its own funding.
Most donations come in Q4 and around holidays. Non-profits need capital to operate during slower months when donations drop off.
Community centers, shelters, and program spaces need repairs and improvements. Deferred maintenance can lead to safety issues or lost accreditation.
Disaster relief organizations and community services sometimes need to scale operations immediately in response to crises — before emergency funding arrives.
